Associate Member of the Year

The Home Builders Association of Mississippi (HBAM) annually selects one associate member to be recognized as the Associate Member of the Year. This award honors members who demonstrate their dedication to the housing industry and to the association, serving as role models to other members.

This honoree is selected from submitted entries by local associations and members.  Associate Member of the Year nominees must be current association members in good standing and classified as an associate member. 


2016 Recipient

The Home Builders Association of Mississippi annually selects one outstanding Associate member as the Associate Member of the Year. Presented to the associate who has best demonstrated their commitment to their local, state, and National Home Builders Association each year, the honoree is selected from entries submitted by local associations or other association members.


The 2016 Home Builders Association of MS Associate Member of the Year is:

James Swanner 
Home Builders Association of Jackson


James is an active member of the Home Builder Association of Jackson and an enthusiastic example of dedicated associate members. James serves as the Vice President of Claims at the Amfed National Insurance Company, where he has worked since 2002.


In his current position, he is responsible for developing claims policy and standards and holds the lead role in the development of programs that will favorably impact results for both written business and TPA operations.


Additionally, James is charged to interact with medical, marketing, actuarial/financial, underwriting, new business and legal/ compliance staff to provide Worker's Compensation Coverage and Administration Services, which makes his partnership especially important to our association.

2018 Recipient

Andrew Johnson, with both Home Builder’s Association of Jackson and the Greater Hattiesburg Homebuilder’s Association, has been an active member on a state and local level since 2006. 

He is currently serving on the Board of Directors of the Home Builder’s Association of Jackson and has served on the Membership Committee in the past. 

On the state level, he is a spike member and serves on the Associates Council and Membership Services Committee. 

Andrew is a Vice President of First Bank.  At First Bank he manages the bank’s construction loan portfolio for both the Hattiesburg and Jackson markets.  Additionally, with First Bank Mortgage closing incentives, he assists the Mississippi Housing Institute with the recruitment of new builders to the Certified Professional Builder program.

Andrew is a native of Mandeville, LA and earned a BS Degree in International Economics from The University of Southern Mississippi. He is also a graduate of the Mississippi School of Banking and the

Graduate School of Banking at LSU. He and his wife, Rebecca, reside in Hattiesburg with their four children – Brandon, Morgan, Lilly, and Reagan.
